SKATE JAM THANKS!

The 5/22 Skate Jam was an incredible success!

Photographic evidence is forthcoming!

Thanks to all who came to show support for the 'new' park.

Noteworthy contributions came from:

- The Lions Club of Half Moon Bay for the tasty BBQ.

Skaters love to eat!

of Half Moon Bay for organizing the whole thing.

for great swag for great tricks.

- Kellan Martin and Frank Juarez (The Wompa Boys!)

for bringing the skatepark back to life.

- Special thanks to Officer Colin Smith of the Half Moon Bay Police Department for

hanging with us! He handled the lone helmet renegade and kept the cool vibe going!

Who's Behind All This?

Michelle Dragony

Michelle got her first skateboard when she was 10, in 1970, two years before Frank Nasworthy would invent the urethane wheel, a decade before helmets. She perfected sliding around Stevens Creek Elementary School in Cupertino, on the buttery smooth concrete paths towed behind her friends' Stingrays. When she moved to England, a year later, to a road with a beautiful hill, they rode the board until it delaminated and the bearings cracked. She just loved wheels and speed. But it wasn't until her son started skating that she got her second skateboard 35 years later! Polyurethane wheels, ramps and flow courses. Wow! She has had so much fun, met so many neat people at skateparks that she wanted to do something for Half Moon Bay. At first she just wanted to fix up Kelly Street so her son wouldn't skate in the street, but with all the enthusiasm for skating in the town, a larger 15,000sq. ft. concrete park is really a possibility. She also has dreams for BMX, motocross, and mountain bike parks to make the Coastside a destination location for hazardous sports

Who's Behind All This?

Martin Brovarney

Self proclaimed "skatepark gypsy" and longtime coastside resident, Martin Brovarney owes his "skate stoke revisited" to his 2 sons Scott and Eric. His passion for skateboarding extends to a volunteer position with the group Skaters for Public Skateparks. There, he assists and advocates well designed and constructed skateparks throughout California. He's often traveling the state keeping tabs on new skateparks coming online. Martin manages the bulletin board at the Pacifica skatepark, is active with the SF Skateboarding Association and attends as many skatepark design meetings as he can get his hands on! Now, with the help of like-minded coastsiders the priority is a "world class skatepark for the Half Moon Bay coastside"!

Silvestre DeLeon: A long-time Coastsider with four boys, is excited to do something for the community. He helped to do the initial weeding and garbage removal and is now maintaining the park.

SUNRISE PAINTING

Robert Dragony: A double decade Coastsider with a skater son has sealed the underside of the ramps to help stop wood rot, stained the hand rails and repainted the ramp sides to make them look better.

Ty Drake: A Structural Engineer is working to create new ramp plans for the city’s approval

More Things and People We Need!
Contractor to build ramps (pyramid first!). The city requires license, bond and insurance. Volunteers will be available to help.

Liability Lawyer specializing in hazardous sports, for advice.

Tree Cutting and Trimming. The city requires license, bond and insurance. Volunteers will be available to help.

Asphalt Sealing. We need sealer or money for sealer, paint rollers, 10 volunteers and a day. OR find an asphalt contractor who can do it for us….

Event Organizer. Someone(s) to organize fundraising contests, clinics, demos…

Graphics. Need a logo and promo stuff done (like this!)

Web-site. The blogspot is great, but it would be even better to have a full-on website to promote fundraising for our concrete dream park.

Materials Donation. We need some materials or donation $$ for a pyramid and 4 ft half pipe. Plans are done.
